You're my Kemosabe

As a child my rainy days were musical. On dad's days off he would free us from daycare- and we'd spend those hours doing chores or preparing dinner in the company of his old records on the victrola. As a general rule, he was in charge of music selection- as my little sister and I were no better then than we are now at compromising with one another..
His selections were pretty predictable, most of the time we got a dose of Harry Chapin, the Eagles, Zeppelin or Clapton. Once in a while we were treated to what my dad dubbed 'chick' music, I think he got a kick out of watching us trying to pair our vocal stylings with the likes of Joni Mitchell, or Bonnie Raitt.
It sent me reeling back to those overcast afternoons when an old favorite of mine came on in the car this morning.. the beach boys "little indian".

I want to fashion a headdress, participate in peace pipe puffing, ride a pony, wild child it up. ..and post these politically improper but cute-sy images:

In the back of my mind, there's a secret place/ the whole world can tell by the smile on my face/ that i've been thinking about you.

Tennessee do the Watusi

Tennessee Thomas is the daughter of Elvis Costello’s drummer Pete Thomas. She belongs to a band known as "the like" whom I happen to like quite a bit, particularly their style of doing things in threes (though now they've upped it to 4 with an organist). Each girl was a progeny of the music industry in one form or another, coincidentally- they are all vegetarian, and they all have names I would kill for ("z", froom, and tennessee).



Tennessee is easily my favorite. She's been acting and drumming since she was 16, and in 2008 she was playing for one of my favorites "she & him". Her boyfriend Mark Ronson- who worked with her on their latest album..? supercute.
I want to put her in my pocket.

Today started with an unusual brunch, a solo trip to the park- and is ending with hours on end spent listening to Cat Stevens' greatest hits while dreaming up ways to construct miniature props for my soon-to-be-built terrarium.
